WildWood Western New York provides outreach programs focused on nature exploration. We offer both in-person and virtual programs for learners of all ages and abilities covering a wide range of topics including astronomy, biology, botany, ecology, geology, mycology, ornithology and more. We keep an up-to-date list of our current programs on our website, but we can also work with you to create a custom program that meets the needs of your students. In-person outreach programs feature both a presentation and activity component, and can be done indoors (in a classroom, library, etc.) or outdoors, if your school has the available greenspace. WildWood WNY's mission is to provide quality, accessible education through nature exploration to learners of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, and we would love to work with you to bring your students closer to nature!

Each year, our school programs serve thousands of students from Saratoga and its surrounding counties, offering activities like "Sheep to Shawl," "Native New York," and "A Brookside Harvest" for various grades and subjects. We provide in-classroom programming, field trip options to our Brookside Museum, and can customize presentations to meet the needs of your students. The Saratoga County History Center offers diverse educational programs for children and adults, expanding our distance learning options to support local schools, teachers, students, and families. We are happy to work with elementary, middle, high school, and college-level students, delivering content in Social Studies, history, and some STEM areas. I am a sewist who makes bags and clothing. I love teaching others the basics of sewing and even getting into more advanced bag making. I am able to do live demonstration or run a workshop.

Professional cartoonist Duane presents an all student assembly that promotes GOAL SETTING, the power of LITERACY and importance of EDUCATION with the four words required for success that all students need to hear! HUNDREDS of schools nationwide have invited Duane into their gymnasiums, auditoriums, cafeterias, libraries and classrooms to motivate, encourage and inspire their students. From full student assemblies, award celebrations, a little motivation before state testing, literacy events and evening parent programs, all Duane needs is an easel and a flip-chart to captivate your students attention and deliver an inspiring and motivating message! Duane was able to begin his professional career while still in school utilizing the pillars of achievement found within DRAW YOUR DESTINY, and he can’t wait to share them with YOUR students!

Love Yourself More is a high-energy program filled with strategies K-5 kids can use to show themselves care and compassion, such as speaking up for themselves, honoring their own moods, and giving themselves grace for mistakes. It’s all disguised as a very silly show that engages students with opportunities to make sounds, move around, answer questions, get on stage, and even join a sing along!

The Seward House Museum offers a variety of educational experiences for students of all ages and adult learners. We host field trips and group tours between the months of March and December in person. Virtual field trips and live streams can also be scheduled year round. Admission is $6.00 for students in a group. Teachers and bus drivers receive complimentary admission. One chaperone is offered complimentary admission per every twenty students. School tours for November-December and May-June tend to book quickly. Teachers are encouraged to make reservations for these seasons as quickly into the school year as possible. The Seward House Museum does its best to fulfill special requests for interpretation. If you would like a particular point of emphasis—Civil War, anti-slavery, women’s rights, etc.—emphasized, please give as much notice as possible when booking your trip. Field trips may be paired with Hands-On History workshops in the Museum. Lectures and Hands-On activities can also be brought into classrooms. The Seward House also offers a variety of virtual resources for students, including lesson plans and resource kits. It also hosts an interactive website for 4th and 5th graders that revolves around the legacy of Fanny Seward.

Ballet Performances

The Farmers' Museum and Historic Village has lots to offer for School groups. We have a variety of tours and workshops, most of which can be tailored to a specific age group. We offer guided and self-guided tour options, as well as workshops in the Fall and Early Spring. We are also the permanent home of the Empire State Carousel, a carousel all about New York State, one of the only museums you can ride! We offer outreach programs, virtual classroom programs and museum tours. Our outreach programs bring the museum to your location. They are interactive and feature hands-on learning with art and artifacts from the museum and a craft or activity to take home. These programs meet NYS standards. Our virtual classroom programs also feature our art and artifacts but are presented virtually and are taught live with the option of student participation through classroom devices such as laptops or tablets. Our museums tours can vary from a self-guided free play tour to our Explore and Create and Explore and discover options, which feature a craft or cultural lesson.

We offer an indoor/outdoor museum experience crafted to align with NY history and social studies standards by exploring the relationship of this early transportation system to geography, history, economics, government, westward movement, and industrialization. For instance, 4th graders will leave with an understanding of: 4.1 Geography of New York State & Maps—Why the route chosen for canal? What mountain range was in the way?; 4.3d American Revolution—It was the War of 1812 that created an energy crisis in the United States when England cut off our supply of coal; 4.5c Civil War—The canal brought coal to power the Union Navy ships. Tanning leather into soldiers’ boots meant increased business/traffic on the canal. The canal was a major contributor to the Union effort. And much more! Group visits are offered Tuesday-Thursday when the museum isn’t open to the public We can accommodate groups up to 40. Depending on the time of year we can accommodate larger groups by dividing them between our galleries and the grounds outside. WORKING LOCK MODEL: students can open and close the lock gates and release or add water to the lock to see technology in action - how else to get barges up and down steep inclines? WEATHER PERMITTING:? 5-LOCKS WALK: Enjoy a shaded walk outdoors on the towpath past five carved stone locks built as part of the 1850 expansion. Illustrated interpretive signs greet towpath users along the way. LUNCH: A flat grassy area next to the quay is available for a picnic lunch schools bring with them. Students may sit on reclaimed snubbing posts, once used to secure barges. CAPTAIN SAYS! Elementary grades love an active game of “Captain Says” which teaches canal terminology. GO HOME WITH AFTER-VISIT ACTIVITIES TARGETED FOR 4TH, 7TH, AND 11TH GRADES.

The mission of The Vanaver Caravan is to inspire, through dance and music, the harmonious co-existence of world cultures and traditions, to promote peace and celebrate our humanity. Artistic directors, Bill and Livia Vanaver, have dedicated over 50 years to learning and sharing dance traditions from every corner of the earth. They have traveled across the globe, creating lasting life-long friendships along the way. Our international collective of professional Teaching Artists are trained with an extensive knowledge in our world dance and music repertoire. All of our faculty learn The Vanaver Caravan's holistic, gentle teaching philosophy: keeping students focused and disciplined in a positive and respectful way. Students are given space to learn and grow in an environment that fosters curiosity, creative thinking skills, and self-esteem through kinesthetic learning.
